Here’s the thing about LLMs and therapy.
The fundamental nature of an LLM is probabilistic. That’s literally what it is. LLMs by their nature understand probability. They understand frequency. They have enormous visibility into all the knowledge we’ve put online.
They have no true understanding of right and wrong, good and evil, moral or not.
Therapy… therapy relies on some deterministic outcomes. Therapy at a minimum applies the Hippocratic Oath, to first do no harm. Dr. J. Bradley Segal wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association that medicine is fundamentally a moral enterprise.
A patient that undergoes therapy and is more harmed than helped has been failed by their therapist. But in the human world, that therapist is accountable. They can be sued, they can be stripped of their licensing.
When you look at Ash’s Terms of Service? There are three pages of liability waivers dodging any responsibility for outcomes.
That tells you everything you need to know about the service. If it was viable, it would be accountable.
