The thing about generative AI optimization or whatever it is you want to call it, is that when models run into low confidence answers in most tools these days, what do they do? That’s right, they trigger a web search. So if you’re good at regular SEO, you’ve got 90% of the problem solved for AI optimization.
Are there specific things that you should be doing? Sure.
Stuff like making sure your site is readable by AI agents. The easiest way to do that is to make sure that your site complies with screen readers and other low vision tools. If low vision humans can’t see it, neither can machines.
Be everywhere that you can be. Show up on every podcast that will have you. Send out press releases. Be in as many places as time and resources permit.
Make sure your site isn’t blocking AI agents and crawlers (duh).
On a regular basis, ask the generative AI tools of your choice for generic recommendations in your space, like “what’s the best industrial ball bearing company that makes 5mm bearings?” Then look at the results that Generative AI tools spit out, specifically the sources, and see what sources they are drawing from. Then go and market to those places.
And finally, the evergreen marketing saw: make shit people actually want.
This isn’t rocket surgery and certainly not worth paying an SEO firm 10x because they slapped a new label on their existing services.
