In the spirit of sharing what we build, here’s the process I use with AI to generate most things, most days:
-
Deep research ensemble: if it’s important, I’ll conduct 5 different deep research projects on 6 different platforms: Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, DeepSeek, and Qwen. The last two are important! Make sure you’re using AI that isn’t from your culture or ecosystem when you’re doing research so you get more diverse answers. (obviously be thoughtful about what data you put in, especially to AI based in PRC)
-
Real words ensemble: if I need the voice of real people, a separate agent uses Reddit via its API to pull tens of thousands of discussions and comments into NotebookLM. I set up the configuration, it does the data pulls and loads with the NotebookLM CLI.
-
Distillation: using agentic AI (OpenWork/Cowork/Claude Code/Qwen Code, etc.) I’ll kick off a 5-step merge process to merge the raw data sets, deduplicate, clean, and fact check. That gives me a master document.
-
Checklisting: once I have a master document, agents build one or more checklists as quality gates. Checklists are one of the most powerful ways to keep AI agents on track – give it clear, objective validation criteria and agents will work until they meet the checklists.
-
Recipe: once I’ve reviewed all the foundational materials, I write the project plan as a recipe using one of the many Trust Insights frameworks.
-
Task execution: with all the prerequisites in place, agents do the actual task and check their work against the checklists. This can take minutes or hours, but this is the point where you go and do something else.
-
Verification: I verify the outputs of the agents and if needed, create a modification/update recipe for the agents to make changes that our original foundation didn’t catch. There’s almost always something I forgot.
What I don’t do any more? Use web-based chat interfaces. Plugins and skills are the new Gems and GPTs – but instead of me using them, AI is using them and operating independently with them. Why? Because chat interfaces encourage micro-management, which discourages systems thinking. In the agentic AI era, you are far better off planning ahead up front than trying to change course mid-way.
I used this today to build a master checklist, based on peer-reviewed research, for building great slide decks because there’s so much garbage floating around by “experts” who mis-cite or misunderstand actual research, and I wanted my own thing that I could virtually guarantee was derived ONLY from peer-reviewed research properly.
The hardest part was devising the research prompt in step 1 using the Trust Insights CASINO framework (trustinsights.ai/casino) and the project recipe in step 5. That took probably 30 minutes combined, but it’s so worth it because it will improve every slide deck I create.
