Idea Velocity: Why Capturing Your Next Big Idea in Seconds Could Be Your Most Valuable Skill

Whoever has the most, best ideas will win.

Yesterday I shared a slide talking about how the distance from idea to done is getting shorter and shorter.

Projects that took weeks can now take hours.

Proofs of concept and MVPs can be generated over a meal.

What this means is that if you are creative and you are able to generate ideas, you need to capture them as quickly as possible and then turn them around as quickly as possible using today’s best tools to do it.

Have your Voice Memos app be one of the top shortcuts on your phone and your smartwatch.

Have your AI live voice chat apps ready to go to have a spirited debate.

Have your voice based input and transcription tools with a permanent hotkey on your keyboard so that anytime inspiration strikes you can immediately capture it and then hand it off to an AI agent to begin processing.

Maybe the agent just evaluates it, maybe the agent runs it past an ideal customer profile, or maybe the agent does a full build. But either way, the critical thing to do is to capture what’s coming out of your head as much as possible, as quickly as possible.

This image is one that popped in my head while I was showering this morning, that you can judge the quality of a hotel chain by what coffee maker is in the room. My Apple Watch has a voice memos app, and I recorded my thinking while I was in the shower, and as soon as I got out of the shower I handed it off to Google Gemini to begin processing and creating it.

Had I not captured that idea, it might have gone down the drain moments later.

If we agree that human ingenuity and creativity is valuable, then we owe it to ourselves to put a harness around our idea generation as much as we focus on putting a harness around AI models.
