I am totally okay with “business as usual” on PUBLIC social media sites in these uncertain times.
Gandalf, Elrond, and the Fellowship did not meet on Mordor’s doorstep and loudly announce their intentions. They met in secret in Rivendell. Gandalf didn’t even tell the Fellowship what the overall plan was, whether they’d all be going to Mordor or not. Aragorn said at the Falls of Rauros that Gandalf kept his own counsel even to that point.
The Eye of Sauron was everywhere. Saruman had been compromised and had in turn compromised Rohan. The palantiri, once great seeing stones, were perverted to turning bearers to Sauron’s thralls.
Gandalf certainly would not be posting on GondorIn or Elfbook what his intentions were or how he planned to destroy Sauron’s power. Otherwise the Lord of the Rings would be like, 100 pages long total and end with the Nazgul showing up and deporting them.
