In today's episode, Ray asks, which AI model is the currently the best for my specific needs. Ready? I don't know. I don't know because I don't know what your needs are. And it sounds like neither do you.

And I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but here's here's where AI stands at the end of 2025 as I record this video. The current state-of-the-art models, so Deep Seek from China, Alibaba Quinn from China, OpenAI's GPT 5.1, soon to be GPT 5.2 if the rumors are true. All of these models are incredibly smart. They are incredibly smart. State-of-the-art models.

They're capable of uh producing pretty much anything uh that you give them. They're all gonna do fantastic things. So the question is less about which is the best model for your needs, and more question of what specialization do you want to be pursuing? So, for example, uh Gemini 3, GPT 5.1, Codex, the Codex variant of the model, and Claude Opus 4.5 are generally considered to be the best models for writing code uh and for agentic use. They're very they're very smart.

Um general, all of these models can pretty much do anything. Uh there's really not anything that they're they're all bad at. As of today, Google's Nano Banana Pro is considered to be the the current state-of-the-art image generation model, although Black Forest Labs Flux 2 just came out, and it shows very strong uh capabilities, along with Tencent Hunyun's uh new image generation model also shows extremely strong capabilities. So all of these tools that are coming out all have pretty much state-of-the-art abilities. There's not anyone that's like, okay, you must use this or else.

The exception to that is music generation right now. So Suno is generally regarded as having the best audio generation model, which is why they had to settle a lawsuit with Warner Music Group uh not too long ago, because their model is so good that it clearly creates infringing works. So even though the model itself is not the source music that was trained on, uh it is the works that users are creating with it and that the company is enabling are considered close enough to be infringing. And so they just had to do a settlement uh for I forget how many millions of dollars for with Warner Music Group on that. And if you are uh if you are an artist or musician who is signed with Warner Music Group, you get like some very small amount of money uh out of out of the deal.

If you are not signed with them, uh you don't. So the question of what the best model is always comes down to what are you trying to do, right? What is the thing that you want the machine to do? And increasingly, what's separating models is not the model itself, right? The model is the engine.

What's separating these tools is what is the harness around the model, which is a fancy technical way of saying what's the rest of the car. So, for example, Google created a version of uh VS Code, Visual Studio Code, called anti-gravity. Anti-gravity is their coding tool. It has a lot of extra stuff built into it around Google's Gemini that makes it very, very smart. And it's very good specifically at coding and specifically at genetic coding, uh, agents and tool use.

It is better than using regular Gemini, right? Because they built a great car around their great engine. And that's the difference. That is the difference as we go into 2026. It is less about the models now because they're all brilliant, and now more about is the model's harness, aka the the rest of the car smart enough to take advantage of what the model is capable of.

So your remit to figure out what model is best is not about the model itself, it's now about what is the vehicle that the model is in, what is the the vehicle, the engine is, and are you using the right engine for the task that you're trying to do? And that's where a lot of differentiation is gonna happen, particularly as we as we move more into agents and agentic AI. It's less about the model and even less about the prompts and more about what is the system that it's in and and what is it connected to? What data does it have access to, all of these things are really, really important and differentiators of what's going to make or break your the value you get out of generative AI. So that is that is the best answer I have as of today.

Answers are subject to James, because you know, as as I have quipped before on places like uh LinkedIn, we are one math paper away from everything changing again, right? So we are we are one paper away from a totally different architecture. There are already there are already some papers out there and some projects and some architectures that could dethrone today's AI models. Uh Google came out with one called Titan about a year ago. We don't know if Titan is in play yet.

We don't know. We know that they made it, we know that it exists. It might be in Gemini, it might not be. We don't know. And they're not saying, and I would not expect them to say.

But Titan is one of several different families of AI architectures that could change how we do things on an ongoing basis. So stay tuned. Uh, stay tuned to the big labs uh in all over the world, so not just America, but uh China in particular, uh, and sections of the EU, sections of Canada, Canada has Cohere, the EU has Mistral.
