In today's episode, Sunil asks, how does AI generated content play a role in organic SEO and how do search engine policies affect that? Um that's a big question. Uh, there's a lot of ways that AI generated content impacts you know, traditional SEO. At the very least, it lets you make more content and potentially better content. There's a whole uh download on the Trust Insights website for optimizing your content for AI.

I'm not going to recap that here. We've got a whole long thing in there. But in terms of how search engine policies work, there's been a set of declarations, particularly from Google, that say we don't want low-value content. We don't want content that will help the user. We don't care who makes it, whether it's you, whether it's a contractor, whether it's AI.

If it fulfills the audience's needs and makes the audience happy and is high quality, that's what we care about. We care we optimize for quality. Um YouTube uh very, very recently said we will not be allowing monetization on purely machine-generated content. Um, if if you as a creator want to monetize, you've got to have some some humans in there that are real. But in general, it comes down to value, right?

At the end of the day, all of us in marketing care mostly about value. What kind of value are we delivering? Are we phoning it in? Are we outsourcing to the cheapest possible uh content creator and and hoping that we can bill out at you know uh $200 an hour and and uh pay a contractor $2 an hour and pocket the arbitrage? These are all considerations.

When it comes to ranking well, you can't really beat algorithms that social and search companies have because they're not one algorithm. There's like dozens of different systems. In our unofficial guide to LinkedIn on the Trust Insights website, there's 14 major components to that system. You're not going to beat any one of them, much less the entire system as a whole. So you have to optimize for the end state.

The end state is making people happy, uh, fulfilling people's needs. When someone comes to your website and says, I need help doing this, if your website answers that question, you will do well. If your website does not answer that question, you will not do well. Um in traditional search engines. In the generative AI era, your website might not even be shown.

It might even not even be cited in an AI overview or an A Google AI mode or a chat GPT search if it's if there's so low value and there's so little propensity for the kinds of questions people are asking, you probably won't even show up. So to answer your question in a in a brief way, focus on delivering the best stuff you can and having an audience that is uniquely yours, that is reliably reachable outside of AI. That will be your best bet. And then worry less about whether AI generated content is going to be flagged in the search engine or not. Deliver value, and no one will care who made it.
