There is no such thing as removing bias from generative AI completely.
None. Zero. Anyone making that claim is lying, period, end of story.
Here’s why. A lot of people – with good intentions, and with good effect – can REDUCE bias by giving today’s language models clear guidelines about what constitutes inclusive language versus exclusive or discriminatory language. There’s no debate about that – you can prompt smart models like Claude or Gemini to evaluate their own outputs and mitigate biases they’ve generated.
But to do that, you first have to clearly define what bias is, and provide clear explanations to the models about what they’re supposed to do instead. And that’s worth doing, worth building into a Skill, into GPTs and Gems and the like. Everyone should do that.
However, the underlying model itself is biased. All models are, and you have to know what those biases are first. Different models, trained on different training data sets, will have different biases. For example, a model trained heavily on the English language will inherit English’s inherently wealthy bias; English is the language of the wealthy. How we describe things in English is biased towards the cultures that use it as a language.
Model makers themselves introduce biases, especially when they instruct models to be helpful, and to behave in ways that we’d describe as sycophantic or subservient. That language has precedents and biases associated with different groups of people.
Even names – which we proved in our December 2025 paper on biases in base models – carry specific biases. Female coded names are treated differently than male coded names:

Unless you are measuring the cosine similarity of the embeddings for EVERY prompt and its outputs, you cannot remove bias from generative AI, and you cannot make the claim that it is gone. Beware ANY vendor that makes claims like that, as they either don’t understand AI or they’re grifters.
Reduce bias at every opportunity, yes, but like any contaminant, it will never truly vanish.
