Stop Chasing the AI Hype: Why Good Ideas Always Find Their Way to Your Ecosystem

If it’s a good idea, it’ll work back to your ecosystem.

The AI hype train loves to shout that this or that is about to change everything, and that if you’re not using XYZ thing, you’re forever left behind, a Neanderthal amidst modern man, a third class passenger on the Titanic in steerage.

The thing is, ideas are not copyrightable. Which means if there’s a good idea, it will work its way back to your ecosystem of choice in one form or another.

Katie Robbert and I were talking about this on today’s Trust Insights livestream as we reviewed Paperclip AI (which I quipped is basically Jira for AI agents and I’m honestly surprised Atlassian hasn’t just bought the entire thing already). The idea behind Paperclip, robust project management for AI agents, is already something we’re seeing backpropagate to ‘mainstream’ AI, like Claude Code’s new dynamic workflows.

OpenClaw was hot for about 15 seconds earlier this year, and you see the major players adopting similar ideas. Minimax Agent Studio, Nous Hermes Agent, NVIDIA Nemoclaw, Claude Managed Agents, Gemini Spark – if the idea is good, others copy it quickly.

Earlier this week I did a two day workshop using only Microsoft Copilot, since that’s what my client had approved. Copilot is Good Enough™ for a lot of level 1 and level 2 AI tasks, especially with OpenAI’s models embedded in it. Copilot Agents are fundamentally just GPTs; if you know how to use ChatGPT, you know how to use Copilot. And the frontier version of Copilot will be getting… Claude Cowork, in a licensed version called Copilot Cowork.

It’s so tempting to succumb to FOMO, to see that this or that thing MUST be the next big thing and you have to be part of it. But the reality is that good ideas propagate, and if you’re patient enough in AI time – which is like 3 months – those good ideas will find their way to your doorstep (and probably a lot more polished).

Worry less about the appliance, and more about what you know how to cook with it.
