Tomorrow is the AI Writer’s Summit, by SmarterX. It’s free to attend if you don’t mind ads.
I’ll share with you the two most important slides in my talk.
1: I use AI for fiction writing when there’s something I want to read, but it’s not something I want to put the effort into writing.
Ever wake up with a weird idea in your head and you’re like, “I wouldn’t mind reading that book” and then you start to write it and 150 words in you’re like, “This is the dumbest idea ever”? That happens to me a lot. That’s when I use AI to write, a work that I just don’t care enough to devote time to writing, but I wouldn’t mind reading.
In the example I show in the Summit, it’s a proof of concept on how to use agentic AI to write a fiction novel. It’s not a book I would have ever written myself.
I make myself a daily newspaper with Hermes Agent because it falls in category 1 – I want to read it. I don’t want to write it.
2: Don’t give AI things you love.
This is the MOST important principle when it comes to writing. If you love a particular work or an idea, no one is saying you MUST hand off that passion project to AI. (at work, maybe, but certainly not in your personal life)
Keep the things you love for yourself.
Please read that again: keep the things you love for yourself. Two reasons: first, you love them. Second, by keeping tasks for yourself, you keep your skills sharp.
Chances are, if you’re a writer, especially a creative writer, there are ideas you desperately need to write to get them out of your head, and there are ideas that are lukewarm at best. Give AI all the ideas that are lukewarm at best so you can focus on the words that haunt you every night until you write them.
