AI Could Replace This Entire $51,000/Year PR Job — Here’s the Proof

Pyramids to obelisks.

Take a look at the job description in the attached image, for an account coordinator at a PR firm.

Ask yourself honestly how much of this job AI could do, with today’s capabilities, especially with agentic tools like Claude Cowork.

The answer is almost all of it.

Creating first drafts of anything? AI.
Taking notes? AI.
Sending recaps after calls? AI.
Creating agendas? AI.
Tracking coverage and making reports? AI.
Doing research? AI.

The only things on here you wouldn’t have AI doing would be filling in timesheets (no need), and actively participating on calls. That’s it. Literally everything else in this job a machine can do – and do incredibly well.

This job’s median pay? $51,940 per year, effectively $4,328/month. (source: ZipRecruiter). Claude Code on the Max 20 plan is $200/month and gives you a solid 4-6 hours a day of intensive work. An entry-level human in this job costs you literally 20x more than a PhD equivalent AI.

When people talk about the jobs that AI will take, this is a prime example. There is nothing here that AI can’t do better than the human, much, much faster, and much, much cheaper.

In the short term, trading a human at $51,000 per year for a machine at $2,400 per year is so compelling fiscally that it’s almost irresponsible for a company NOT to. You wouldn’t get rid of humans entirely – someone still needs to maintain the AI at least for the short term. But the org chart will go from a full size pine tree to a skinny pine tree very quickly, from a pyramid to an obelisk.

But that raises an interesting question, one which Katie Robbert highlighted not too long ago. This is the bottom rung on the career ladder at a PR firm. If we remove that rung, then there’s no one to become an account executive, and then no one to become a senior account executive, and so on.

What is a person supposed to do to remain gainfully employed in late stage capitalism? If you have the privilege to do so, start your own thing. A skinny tree in the forest means there’s room for many more trees.

Something I’ve said in my keynotes this year is that the distance to done gets smaller every day. If you have an idea, you can bring it to life faster than ever. If you can’t afford Claude, Minimax M2.7 is 1/12 the cost for 95% of the capabilities, and AI gets cheaper by the day – more powerful, less expensive. Google’s new TurboQuant algorithm helps ALL AI (not just theirs) be 6-8x more efficient and faster.

If the pyramid you want to start on has shrunk, then if you’re able, start building your own.
