In the spirit of April Fool’s Day, I’m pleased to announce my debut country album.
Okay, no, it’s not me. It’s AI, of course. But it was a fun experiment in using agentic AI. Here’s how.
First, Suno just came out with its new v5.5 model. The voices definitely have less auto-tune-esque sound than previous models, but there are still other weird audio artifacts.
Any time a new model comes out that’s a significant version number change, you go to the community to see what’s changed – have prompt templates changed, etc.? As per usual, I had an AI agent use the Reddit API to grab the last 3 days’ conversations in the relevant forums and programmatically load them into a NotebookLM instance, then use the NotebookLM CLI to query about what, if anything, is different.
I also had 3 deep research reports review the last 10 years of peer-reviewed research about music, specifically lyrics composition, to create a ruleset and checklist for an agent to follow about what makes for good lyrics writing. There’s a ton of research about it, which was surprising, but I guess someone was eager to fund it.
After that, I took each issue of my newsletter, Almost Timely, from 2026 – 13 issues so far – and gave them to Claude Code as a data source, provided a recipe (used to be a Gem, now a Skill), and these checklists and references. There’s a special trick I use for Suno’s composition prompts that tends to work really well, and ended up with a decent composition for each issue.
For those who are fans of Almost Timely, see if you can figure out which song maps to which issue. It’s not in order.
The final step in the Claude Code sequence was the album cover and it was upload time.
