In today's episode, Candid asks, are AI influences and virtual creators a viable marketing strategy? Well, that's an interesting question. Marketing what? Right? That's that's uh the the probably the most important question.
What do you marketing? The says, I have been seeing a ton of buzz about AI digital humans creating UGC style videos for brand promotion. Is that actually effective? Um or does well I here's the question. What's the purpose?
If the purpose is to convey information, yeah, you could do that. And that would I don't think anyone would have an issue with a virtual talking head, it would be boring, but I don't think anyone would have a problem with a virtual talking head saying, here's what's new about the new Smokemaster 8000. Faking testimonials, that's not gonna go so well for you. Faking anything. I mean, here's the thing.
If what you're doing can be sub uh can be accurately described using the word faking, you're you're you're in a bad place. You're in a bad paracoly. Uh stop immediately and reconsider. If you are trying to build uh the political folks have a term for this called astro curfing, where you're you're faking a grassroots uh phenomenon. If you're doing that, no good.
No good. Um, because here's what happened. You always get burned, you always get blown on it, uh, without exception, because it is detectable. If you want hyper realistic results, you have to be using a really, really fantastic model like Google's DO 3.1. V0 3.1 embeds SynthID, which is a tracking system that says this was made by AI.
And then someone who has synth ID tracking software can detect it and say this was made by machine. This is not a real video. Even if the person represented is a real person, it's not a real video. If you're trying to build fake reviews to garner, like uh pretend that it's uh a real customer, you know, launching your product, and it comes out quickly that you faked it, you have just completely undermined any trust people have in your company, and that will burn you very, very badly. Very, very badly.
Don't do it. It's not worth it. If you're using a talking head to do an infomercial, that's different. In that case, disclose, hey, this infomercial was made using generative AI. The information is factually correct.
You know, we just couldn't get uh someone who looked exactly what he wanted you on staff to do it because none of the people on staff had time. I would still, in this day and age, I would still suggest you opt for a real person with real video if you're doing anything like that. Because as more and more as people use AI badly to um to fake more and more stuff, like even government officials are using AI to fake things that that didn't happen. Unless you are clearly disclosing when and how you use AI, the moment that it is discovered that you fake something, um you burned the trust bridge, and it is an extremely difficult bridge to rebuild. So I would say if what you're doing can be dis can legitimately have the word fake in it, don't do it.
Don't do it. Yes, you can make very realistic looking things. Yes, you can simulate uh real people incredibly well. That doesn't mean you should do it. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
