Stop Using Yesterday’s AI Tricks: A Bruce Lee Guide to Surviving the Intelligence Revolution

“Jeet Kune Do utilizes all ways and is bound by none… uses any techniques or means which serve its end. Set patterns, incapable of adaptability, only offer a better cage.” – Bruce Lee

One of the pillars of Bruce Lee’s martial art was to absorb and incorporate anything useful from any style, leaving behind what wasn’t useful from his point of view. He intended Jeet Kune Do to be a living art, constantly changing as times change, as he discovered more – and left behind the things that stopped working or stopped making sense.

He would have had a good laugh at many of today’s AI practitioners. So many of us are locked into a mindset, from “THE ULTIMATE CHATGPT PROMPT” nonsense to not paying attention to how the systems are changing – and adapting to those changes.

For example, we are watching AI evolve before us:

  • Done by you: 2023-2024. You talk to ChatGPT, it talks back. You copy paste a lot.
  • Done with you: 2024-2025. You build gems, GPTs, n8n flows, and AI does some stuff, you do some stuff.
  • Done for you: 2026. You deploy Claude Cowork or Claude Code or Antigravity or what have you and it just goes off and does stuff for you.
  • Done without you: 2026-2027. *Claw projects hint at where AI is going. You give it a high level goal and it just gets it done.

With every iteration, it moves up the ladder from its beginnings of “I’m an autocomplete” to “I’m a semi-autonomous agent” today, to near-full autonomy tomorrow.

The things that worked for you in 2023 are good. They’re part of the foundation that allowed everything after to blossom. But they’re not where you should have stayed.

So what? What’s a person to do? The same thing as Bruce Lee advocated: constantly be testing. Trying things out. Learning. Failing. Understanding not only what works, but what works specifically for YOU. Katie Robbert talked yesterday about how she, as a self-proclaimed non-technical person, not only got Claude Cowork to build a slide deck but published her first piece of software – a Claude plugin – from the experience.

Use any techniques or means which serve your ends and leave the rest behind.
