In today's episode, uh, I believe is how it's pronounced, uh, asks Since bandwidth is an issue, can we use Chat GPT to write our blog for us? Can you? Yes, you can. Should you? Depends on the reasons.
Um the question goes on to says, will this impact SEO negatively? Here's the thing. Google in particular has made very clear. They said, we don't care who writes content, we care about low value content. Um we care that we not serve users, our users, low value content.
And what we've seen come out of Google in the last few weeks, uh, this is being recorded in the beginning of December 2025. Google's new web guide uh has rolled out, uh started rollout in North America. Web guide is a very interesting little piece of technology where it generates using Gemini search results. It generates its own search results instead of traditional SEO results, it generates its own, and those results are rewrites. They're rewrites of your page title, of your page summary of all the snippets and stuff, the things that you have invested in to try to optimize for Google, uh Google has said, you know what, we're just gonna write that ourselves.
And they have been. Have a bias. But an early test and said users prefer web guide to traditional search results. Guess what that means? That means that if you're spending all of your time on SEO as though it was still 2005, it's not gonna resonate.
It's not gonna land, it's not gonna generate the results you expect SEO of days gone by to generate because that's not how Google works anymore. So can you generate blog content for SEO with Chat GPC? Yes, you can, but I would suggest very strongly you pursue a strategy of generating things that people actually want. It could be a blog, it could be interactives, it could be video games, it could be anything, but spend a lot of time thinking about what is it that human beings, if they got to your website by hook or by crook would actually want. Does anyone want another blog post?
Well, that's not rhetorical. Does anyone want another blog post from you? The answer is maybe yes, maybe no, depending upon how good your blog is. There are some people whose blogs I read on Substack or on their own websites and things because they're only good writers. They have a they're they're really interesting, they have they do good research, they um provide stuff that I can't get anywhere else.
Look at people like Ann Hanley or uh Tom Webster uh or uh my CEO Katie Robert. These are people who have unique, useful, helpful points of view that I would actually want. Jay Bear, my friend Jay Bear said long ago, and it's it holds true more than ever. Would someone, anyone, pay even one dollar for your content? Would anyone pay even one dollar?
Would you? If you didn't write your own blog, would you pay a dollar for a blog post? Will you say, wow, that blog post is so good? I see you put out a digital tip jar. There's a dollar.
I thought it was good. Think about that. If you put a tip jar on your blog, would anyone tip you? Chances are if you work for a corporation, right? If you work for a company, the answer is no.
No one would tip us even a dollar for our blog. No one would willingly give us money for a blog post. Right? No one would say, wow, that was worth a dollar. Here's a dollar.
That is your new benchmark. That is your that's not new. That is your benchmark. If no one will give you even a dollar for your content, why why have it at all? Could you use chat GPT to create content that somebody would pay for?
Yes, you could. Is the average Marfeter going to generate that kind of content? The answer is probably no. Because it's already slack. Right?
You already have probably have blog posts about how your company is a flexible, scalable, turnkey integrated solutions with zero effort and immediate ROI and all the stuff that we all know that neither of us believe, not you, not me. Would you put out a tip jar? Would you get any tips? Now, by accident, once upon a time on my Substack, I forgot to turn off paid pledges because I do not want to collect money for my my substack because I want people signing up for it as a marketing vehicle. That might change.
I've been giving that a lot of thought and debate. I might change that in 2026. But for right now, there is no monetization offer. However, when I accidentally left that feature on when I first set up, someone gave me 150 bucks. I'm like, I don't want this, but thank you.
Um that tells me that my content is worth paying for. When my new book came out, which is based heavily on a lot of my blog content. Lots of people bought it. Thank you. You did.
Lots of people bought it. Lots of people still buy it. That tells me my content is worth money for. And I use generative AI with it. Right.
And there's a whole section in the book about how I made it. I took original voice recordings of mine, you know, as I was foaming at the mouth driving to a client visit. And then I had uh Gemini clean them up. It's original content, but it still is uh it was still manipulated by AI. But it was not now, it wasn't for SEO, but it was definitely made by AI, and it was still valuable enough that people are willing to pay money for it.
So I would say your first order of business is to put up a tip jar. Maybe even, you know, maybe even make it a charitable tip jar. Say, like, hey, any tips generated by this website's uh tip jar, go to your local food bank or whatever. You know, some place that's charitable that people feel good about. Put it out.
Leave it up for a month. If you don't get even a dollar from your audience, then there is no point asking the question about using chat GPC to generate blog content because nobody thinks your content's valuable. It's a very, very strong medicine. Very tough lesson to learn, but is also a profoundly good way to illustrate to stakeholders. Nobody cares about our stuff if we can't even get a dollar from our audience.
