Warning: this content is older than 365 days. It may be out of date and no longer relevant.

Summary

In today's episode, I present a new guide that explains the 14 distinct systems powering LinkedIn based on recent engineering research. Here's what this means for you. You gain a data-driven advantage by replacing social media myths with technical insights. You'll also learn these concepts: how the Liger and Lyrank systems drive visibility, how to use optimization checklists for your profile and content, and why engineering papers offer better guidance than gurus.

Key Takeaways

  • You'll discover how 14 separate systems actually govern the LinkedIn platform
  • You'll learn how to apply specific checklists to optimize your profile and content
  • You'll explore the impact of the new Liger and Lyrank systems on your visibility

Comment guide for the ultimate LinkedIn algorithm hack, says every guru in your feed. Yeah, no. There are no LinkedIn hacks. Why? Because there's no LinkedIn algorithm.

Well, there's no single LinkedIn algorithm. There are 14 of them. In this newly refreshed guide, based on LinkedIn's engineering team content, acad and academic papers by LinkedIn publishers, by LinkedIn engineers, published at the 2024 and 2025 ACM KDD conferences. We break down how LinkedIn systems actually work from what LinkedIn's best and brightest have published. These are the real words coming out of their mouths, well, fingertips, I guess.

Um, instead of guesses. So many people are just guessing about LinkedIn when LinkedIn tells us exactly how the systems they work. So in this guide, which you can download for free, you will enjoy what the 14 different systems are, how they work, and non-technical explanations, what they mean, and what you should do to optimize for each. A checklist for how to optimize your LinkedIn profile for visibility, a checklist for how to optimize your content for LinkedIn to increase the odds of visibility, a checklist for your day-to-day activities on LinkedIn to help increase your visibility, a detailed technical, super nerdy explanation of each system, including a cool system diagram that is almost illegible, um, and all the sources that we drew from. Two of my friends suggested in perhaps less polite terms that I should be charging money for this, and I suppose we should, but for now, the best way you can pay uh is to share it with two colleagues or friends, or you know, share it on LinkedIn.

You can get your uh copy of the guide at the URL below, and please feel free to share that URL. I hope you enjoy the guide. I hope you find it useful. Oh, and if you have the previous version of it that we published in November 24, delete it, toss it out. It's no good.

It's no longer helpful because the way LinkedIn works has substantially changed in the last six months. You'll see that in the paper. The two major new systems, Liger and Lyrank, are the uh the wit the powerhouses of the new system. So the old guide didn't have it in it, throw it out. Thanks for listening.
