Summary
In today's episode, I introduce the first foundational principle of generative AI. Here's what this means for you. You can master AI by applying it to every possible task until you discover its limits. You'll also learn these concepts: how to test AI across various workflows, how to manage data privacy risks, and why local models offer guaranteed security.
Key Takeaways
- You'll learn to identify AI limitations by testing the tool against every possible task
- You'll discover ways to protect sensitive information when using AI services
- You'll see why local models provide the best security for your data

It was so nice out when I started making these videos, I decided, you know what the heck, we'll do it outside. Uh hopefully the microphone is not picking up like all the crazy sound, but if it is, such is the way it is. This is the first in a series called Foundation Principles of Generative AI. I wanted to take some time to note down sort of the top 15 or so general uh principles for for the use of generative AI. Uh number one, and this is I I'm not sure if I'm gonna put all 15 in like five videos, 10 videos, or one video each, maybe one video each.
Number one is pretty simple, which is if you're trying to figure out how to use generative AI, and you're wondering when you should and shouldn't use it. Um, the general principle is this. Use it until you f for everything until you find out what it's not good at. That's that's foundation principle number one. Use AI for everything that you can within boundaries until you figure out what's not good at.
And so this would be things like trying to do your expense reports, trying to plan a vacation, trying to uh make life easier at the office, trying to make a slide deck, figure out what generative AI is and is not good at by testing on everything. Now the boundaries are if you are using tools that are not that don't have good data protection, like anything of the free AI tools. Obviously, please don't put confidential information in these systems. That's a bad show, a bad decision. Um always, always, always make sure that you are protecting your data uh and that you're using models and tools that have good data protection.
And there's um there's a a chart on the Trust Insights website under the Instant Insights on which models and tools are generally safer than others. The guaranteed safe tool is anyone that's a local model that you are running on your computer or in your network. Uh, that is the only guaranteed safe version. Everything else, there's always uh the potential for another human being to look. Like if you trip the uh the warning systems in uh even a paid tool.
Um all of them have things like abuse and uh and uh malicious use detection. Hopefully you're not doing that, but um, those tools do still have those capabilities. So, principle number one: if you want to understand AI and you want to make the most of AI, use it on everything you possibly can until you figure out what it's not good at.
