“How can I future-proof my career?”
There is no such thing as future-proofing.
Do I understand the instinct, to want to insulate yourself from change? Sure. Keeping up with change is exhausting.
But there’s no such thing. Change is the only constant. On the eve of my black belt test more than 20 years ago, my teacher, Mark Davis of the Boston Martial Arts Center, warned us all that if we don’t change, we don’t grow, and if we don’t grow, we don’t advance.
In some cases, change is exponential. AI is one of those things. So is climate change. New effects stem from existing effects, multiplying. When AI models write themselves, that compounds. When permafrost melts, releasing vast quantities of methane, that multiplies the greenhouse effect.
Sometimes, you can’t even plan for the change. No one planned to have gasoline prices increase by 40% in just weeks, diesel prices up 70%. Change happens.
No one planned to have foundation models in AI rev every 4-6 weeks, but that’s the rough pace today. Change happens. Growth happens.
As the adage goes, you don’t have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the slowest person near you. Change is the bear. How fast are you running?
The thing that I use to keep up with change? Frameworks. There’s a reason why Trust Insights has so many frameworks, like our 5P Framework by Trust Insights, created by our CEO Katie Robbert, as well as TRIPS AI enablement, RACE prompting basics, RAFT responsible AI, CASINO deep research, etc. The list is dozens long at this point.
Why? Because frameworks give me a way to organize change. When change happens, I can put the change in context of a framework so I know how that change impacts what I do.
New AI model drops? Great. Let’s test it in our frameworks and see where it fits best.
New economic circumstances drops? Great. Let’s test it in our strategy frameworks and see how it impacts us.
If change is the bear, frameworks are the running shoes I wear to outrun it.
