The Mother of All Pingbacks

Warning: this content is older than 365 days. It may be out of date and no longer relevant.

Working off an idea from John Wall and David Meerman Scott, here’s a massive list of everyone who has left me a comment on my blog (or in some cases, a pingback). This list was compiled from the MySQL database that powers my WordPress blog, with the query:

SELECT DISTINCT `comment_author` , `comment_author_url`
FROM csp891_comments
ORDER BY `comment_author` ASC

I stuffed the output into Excel, did a little cleanup, and here we are. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the past few months to make this blog what it is.

Updated: The DoFollow Plugin is also enabled. Google Juice for everyone!

  3. So what does this teach us? Use a different name every time you comment so that when someone posts a list like this you get more than one pingback.

  5. Well, until I write a script that will extract only the domain name of the blog itself… then I’ll sort on URL, not name.

  15. This is brilliant. While I understand the need for rel=nofollow, I hate that we lose the ability to legitimately share google mojo with eachother because of it. Doing a manual linkback like this helps solve that. Very cool.

This might be fun to turn into a wordpress plugin. Drop me an email if you’re interested in fleshing it out, I’ve done a plugin or two before 🙂

  19. I would be concerned that this would reward comment spam and I see you already have some in response to this posting.

  29. You have compiled an excellent list! I just came across a list of roughly 1200 do follow blogs which is great to build links but also to give away in order to build an strong mailing list off of a blog or website! You can snag it here http://www.rishabhsood.net/dofollow-blogs.txt you don’t even have to download them as they are displayed as a website. Thanks for the list.
