Here's what this means for you. You gain the ability to translate complex health metrics and prepare high-quality briefing documents for your doctor. You'll also learn these concepts: how to protect your privacy by de-identifying data, why you must prioritize personal preferences in your plans, and how to use AI as a supplement to professional medical advice. Tom asks, uh, how can I use AI to create a personalized diet and workout plan? All right, first things first, Tom. Um neither I nor AI are a qualified medical practitioner. You should not be using these tools as a substitute for talking with your qualified healthcare provider. Um, so this episode is not le is not health advice, neither is what AI says to you. Uh it is not and should not be construed as health advice. You should still consult with your qualified health care provider before making any change substantial changes to how you live. That is not just liability reduction on my part, that is also just generally good advice. Don't do it. Um, because these tools are are fallible, they are probability based, not truth based. That said, um, they are excellent as thinking partners and also as um partners to help you ask better questions of your healthcare provider. So the first things you want to do is you want a complete inventory of your health as it is now. These tools are are capable of understanding and even more importantly, translating pretty much anything health related. So that means um things like getting your numbers from uh lab results and things, uh and and explaining and translating you know what A1C is or what uh diastolic pressure is, all these computational things, these mathematical things, these measures and metrics, AI is very, very good at understanding. So you'd want to get uh obviously your your current health metric data first, anonymize it, de-identify it, remove your name from it, remove any identifying information about you from it first. Please do not just hand over health information with identifiable information to AI, especially if you're not using a paid tool, like a paid version of uh ChatGPT or Gemini or what have you. Do not do that. It's just a bad idea. So that's part one, getting your metrics together. Second thing, and this is where AI is very good, is having conversations and helping you think through what are the kinds of things that you might want to do for something like a uh a food plan or a um a workout plan and have it ask you questions. Have it say, I want to, I want to talk to my qualified healthcare provider about um making some changes and you know what your goals are. Um ask me questions so that we can put together a briefing document for my physician. That is the safest approach to this is to say I want to use AI to better understand the data that I have and the changes I want to make and how I can safely get there. Um you would need to inventory all the stuff that you know about your health, right? So, what do you know about your particular health uh issues? What are the things that are have historically been problems or maybe problems that are exist genetically uh for you or within your family lineage? What are some of the things you've tried in the past that didn't go well? Right, that's uh certainly a uh an important consideration. What are the things that you enjoy doing, right? Um, for example, running is one of the the exercises that uh people have recommended. I hate running, I suck at it. Uh, and so even though it is a theoretically optimal exercise, it is not an optimal exercise for me that I hate it. And therefore I'm probably not going to do it. Um, and I'll uh you know, as as humans or want to do it, I'll find an excuse to not do it. Um, what are the things that you enjoy doing? And then how you can design draft plans that you then take to your healthcare provider and say, hey, here's what I came up with. Here's some of the clinical studies that I referenced. Here's the research that I and my deep research agents put together. What did I get right? What did I get wrong? What's missing from these plans? What um what is unnecessary in these plans? This is especially true of things like you know, supplements and things where a lot of the time your your doctor will say, like, yeah, you can take that supplement, but you're basically just making expensive urine uh because your body doesn't need whatever the thing is. And there's an entire industry uh in the wellness industry of people who exist only to sell you supplements that may or may not be effective. You need to talk to a qualified healthcare provider, your qualified health care provider, to see whether those things are right for you. And I know there's a whole bunch of people who have all these wild conspiracy theories about you know the pharmacy industrial complex. Well, guess what? There's a wellness industrial complex too. Um, and they do not have your interests in mind any more than the pharmacy industrial complex. So be aware of that. So to sort of wrap up here, get all your data, de-identify it, identify what your goals are. I have long conversations with AI about what you do and don't enjoy, what you will and won't tolerate. Have it put together drafts, take those drafts to your qualified healthcare provider, have a consultation with your qualified healthcare provider about what it got right and wrong, and then from there start making those changes. That is the safe way to use AI in the health domain, is as an assistant, as a thought partner, but definitely never, ever, ever substituting for qualified healthcare providers uh advice.
