Hi Chris - interesting twist to things... it's related to something I call orchestrated serendipity. The idea is that there are ways to create the environment in which serendipity occurs with the people you would most want it to occur with and it is all about the choices one makes about where they invest their time and energy. But I couldn't agree more - it is up to the individual to make opportunities happen. One caveat for me would be that you can encourage a *range* of serendipity/opportunity but you can't really encourage the specifics because you need other people for that.

Well said, Chris. It always amazes me when we hear stories of "overnight successes" when most of the time, the success is the result of years of hard work and perseverance.

My decision to start my own company doesn't feel so much like a business decision because it's so tied in with who I am, what I want to do and how I want to express myself. When you make that decision to take your own path you bump into your own fears & doubts. The best antidote is some good inspiration from someone who's further down the road. So, thanks for the inspiration this morning.

Chris, I think those that work the hardest, have a good strategy, and care the most will experience the most "serendipity". It's both-and, not either-or. When you're involved in breaking new ground and collaborating with people, all sorts of new and unanticipated (and unplanned) opportunities will pop up. That's serendipity, and it's welcome. But it happens because you're out there plowing and sowing.

Can a person really chase serendipity? I am not sure how one would go about doing that.<br>On a side note, serendipity can lead to many great experiences, I met my wife under serendipitous circumstances.
