It's all about finding your own voice, your own style, right?

However, I have one point that differs from what you say-- a little. My usual model has been that of musicians-- to put that twist on what you say, I think that emulation is one of the ways to acquire the skills, a base from which you propel forward once you do find that voice. My favorite example is Branford Marsalis, the saxophone player who sounded like (and probably intentionally copies) such sax greats as Sonny Rollins and john Coltrane on his earlier albums as he developed his own distinctive style- which came soon enough

I was telling my students something very similar this morning in context of improving their nonverbal communication.

Maybe on days when I don't feel like coming in to work, I can just send students to your website. ;-)

Excellent reminder. Just be yourself. The success that follows (or doesn't) will be entirely yours and won't make you go crazy trying to emulate someone else.
