Solid advice, but I think it really depends on the type of site. I agree that in order to find true and long term success, you need to produce quality content, have a great design, and optimize your content for search engines. That is a great formula la for flagship style blogs, but it does work well for all niches. Some niches are just hard to link bait and no matter how much content your produce, you have no chance of getting a Digg. In that case, you have to get really creative with your marketing.

This buy the service from dead right. In fact, you can but the service form Hubspot to get you web site traffic (i.e. optimize your site) and either create or get content (e.g. exonearticles.com, goarticles.com). Once you have 100+ pages of solid content on your site, then you have something for social media.

I work in SEO and we like to be involved from step 1. If you don't keep us informed of major design and infrastructure changes you could have to back track.

Funny, we recently decided to restructure our business plan, content, website and online marketing services based on these fundamental principles. It's very important to create good content before anything else and we are starting from here.

As usual, smart, to the point, direct help from one of the best people I know in getting things done. Now I want to go back and make sure I have done things in your correct order. Thanks Chris.

Hi Chris - Great post, I totally agree that content is the place to start. And I think people oftentimes get overwhelmed when they think they need to attack all these aspects at once - seo, blogging, reading/commenting on blogs, getting into social media, etc. but if you take it one step at a time, it's a lot easier to take it on and it actually starts to come naturally. Great to meet you this week at the conference!
