In the face of criticism from a slate of economists who say her gas tax holiday plan would be ineffective or even harmful, Hillary Clinton said she wasn’t taking stock of their opinions and emphasized that this was a short-term fix that would primarily benefit long-distance drivers.
“I’m not going to put my lot in with economists,” Clinton told George Stephanopolous on ABC’s ‘This Week’ after he asked her to name a single economist supporting her plan.
Because you wouldn’t want to listen to folks who actually know what they’re doing when it comes to money, right?
Idiocy.

05|May|2008 2Chris, this race gets worse by the minute. This latest announcement from Clinton is political pandering pure and simple. Yech.

05|May|2008 3I try not to discuss politics publicly but this is BS. Anyone who’s taken an economics class knows what supply and demand is, and that removing the tax only allows the supplier to increase their sell price in order to meet the demand. The holiday tax reduction would really be giving the industry an extra boost in profits.
No one is ringing this cowbell yet, but has anyone thought that another good reason not to elect Clinton is so we end the Bush/Clinton Dynasty? If Clinton was elected, our country will have been lead by the same 2 families since 1988. That sounds more like a monarch than a democracy to me.
Just my 2 cents. I’ll never vote for Clinton, I made that decision a long time ago. I may just have to vote for the other party if Obama is not the democratic nominee.

05|May|2008 5I love the fact that “food prices will drop with fuel tax”. It’s not going to happen. Freight brokers are going to pocket that money in a fuel surcharge anyway. Why not cap these brokers and other monopoly corps. (walmart)? Get their employees off fed.& state medicaid!! I think these candidates should walk a mile in a laborers shoes to realize how distraught this economy is!! Clinton bragged on how lucky she is that she is rich(no spin/fox), she won my vote on that!! Does that have anything to do with corporate embezzlement(whitewater)? She did the exact opposite of what she preached!!

06|May|2008 6Yeah, that’s EXACTLY what I thought when I first heard that on NPR. If “knowing how a balance sheet works” equals “elitism”, then I will vote for the Elitist Party every time.

09|May|2008 7I haven’t seen a politician shred a profession like this since the talk about trial lawyers supposedly ruining the world years back. Doesn’t Hillary know that economists and their families and other people who have college degrees vote too?

10|May|2008 8Mr Mandato;
Please look up ‘monarch’ (sic) before using the term here. You vote for the candidate that closest matches your values and beliefs. In the case of HC this presents a problem, as she appears to have no values.
I sincerely hope the nomination goes to BO - just so I can see the grimace on all the blue collar faces as they vote for a black man.
Priceless.

11|May|2008 9I am aware of the definition of the word monarch and I used it appropriately for the message I was conveying. Having the same two families run a country for an extended period is like a monarch. You are right though, it is not ‘a’ monarch, but it is important to think about. How many years should the same two families run a country? What diversities of leadership are we loosing?

13|May|2008 10what other experts is she going to blow off during her presidency? This is the kind of bull headed thinking that got us where we are now with Bush.
