The Mother of All Pingbacks

Working off an idea from John Wall and David Meerman Scott, here’s a massive list of everyone who has left me a comment on my blog (or in some cases, a pingback). This list was compiled from the MySQL database that powers my WordPress blog, with the query:

SELECT DISTINCT `comment_author` , `comment_author_url`
FROM csp891_comments
ORDER BY `comment_author` ASC

I stuffed the output into Excel, did a little cleanup, and here we are. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the past few months to make this blog what it is.

Updated: The DoFollow Plugin is also enabled. Google Juice for everyone!

  1. and right back at ya Chris

  2. So what does this teach us? Use a different name every time you comment so that when someone posts a list like this you get more than one pingback.

  3. Well, until I write a script that will extract only the domain name of the blog itself… then I’ll sort on URL, not name.

  4. Wow – that’s awesome! What a neat idea and a cool gesture to say thanks. The link is appreciated!

  5. Chris- great of you to remember us all. I’m always fascinated to hear what you will say, both in the blog and on the podcast. Thanks for sharing your time and energy. See you at Podcamp NYC #2! Whoo hoo!

  6. Haha! Awesome. You rock.

  7. That is one DAMN fine trick :-)

  8. This is brilliant. While I understand the need for rel=nofollow, I hate that we lose the ability to legitimately share google mojo with eachother because of it. Doing a manual linkback like this helps solve that. Very cool.

This might be fun to turn into a wordpress plugin. Drop me an email if you’re interested in fleshing it out, I’ve done a plugin or two before :)

  9. Hey Chris, fantastic setup! Thanks for the Google juice and for the inclusion on the mega-pingback. Always great to see another tool to help us with connectivity.

  10. I would be concerned that this would reward comment spam and I see you already have some in response to this posting.
