I enjoyed Seth's presentation in Philly, and I thought charging to hear him and get 5 books free (or buy 5 books, hear him for free) to encourage people to share the message with friends was a great thing to try, and lord knows, I loved being able to send copies to friends like Chris.

What I got out of it, is that there are times you need to call the ball- if you don't want to try to be the best at whetever it is you are doing, no matter how you define your world- are you better spending your time and effort on something you are best at? It's a different version of the same core message- be remarkable, and maximize your talents in order to be remarkable.

Chris does this by making his student loan company the best there is in the business, and making services like the Financial Aid Podcast adjuncts that make his company stick out from the pack.

I define my "mission" as having the best podcast available about learning and learning disabilities. My world is defined that way, not as "the best parenting podcast" or "the best podcast period"- I try to be the best at everything I do- doing something half- assed is fundamentally a waste of my time- and that's the message I think Seth is trying to get across- a kind of "balls to the wall" mentality of Be The Best or don't waste your time or others. Or at least that's what I get out of it- is good enough really good enough?

Picked up a copy at the bookstore 2 days ago and skimmed it. I concur with your view. Not SG's strongest effort and in some ways it smudged his shine a bit for me.
